L4E1 Light Tank

Despite many claims made for it in terms of originality and fighting ability, the basic design was little different from the Light Tank Mark V. New features included a rear escape door for the crew, an extended track base, an extra road wheel on each side and the reintroduction of an adjustable rear idler and armoured skirting plates covering the suspension. As a result the new tank turned out somewhat heavier. Although it served with 1st Tank Brigade in 1937 and was reported on favourably by the Mechanisation Board, it was never developed.
